Greetings from all of us at Hank Lee’s Magic Factory, and a very happy Fourth of July weekend to everyone. A weekend to celebrate independence.
I am very proud to be an American. I think this is a pretty amazing country. I don’t know of too many places where a kid who starts with nothing can succeed beyond his or her wildest dreams. And, it happens all the time. Don’t be fooled. The streets here are not paved in gold. But, if you have a good idea and work harder than hard, you just might make it. Which is a lot better than working harder than hard and knowing that you have no chance in the world of succeeding. America, what a country!
It’s really nice to have my finger on the pulse of magic. Sometimes the pulse is a little hard to find, but not this week! We have some very preliminary information on the 2012 Tenyo line! Normally, we don’t find out anything until November, but this year, we hit upon some advance information. There are five new items in the line.
Psychokinetic Pencil: Magician shows a pencil and a bill. The bill is folded, and placed on the top of the pencil. Without touching the bill, the bill will slowly move and rotate on the pencil. The pencil is then placed into a shot glass. Without touching the pencil, the bill will still rotate and move.
Tower of Dice: Magician shows a dice box. He opens the box and takes out 4 dice. The 4 dice are then stacked into a tower. The box then covers up the dice tower. The box is slowly lifted to reveal the number of dice has increased to a tower of 8. You can hand the box and dice to the spectator to examine
Pop Up Box: Magician hands an envelope to the spectator with a prediction inside. He then shows three cards each with a printed color circle. A spectator is asked to select one card. For example, the red one. Magician does not see which color has been selected. He opens the envelope and takes out a folded card. The card is opened to show a small pop up box inside. The box is popped open and the magician takes a ball from inside which matches the color chosen by the spectator.
The Third Eye - Lubor Fiedler: Place the third eye on your forehead and you will have visions and see the truth in a very strange way. Ask a spectator to select one card out of five. Each card has things that people may want such as fame, fortune, or love. The 5 cards are shuffled and placed on a card stand with the backs of the cards visible. Take out an eyeball known as "The Third Eye." This eye flashes a strong red light. Give the eye to the spectator and ask her to place it between her two eyes. When the spectator looks at the back of the cards with the third eye, she can find the selected card. It's an incredible effect, and his secret is diabolical.
Magical Carpet - Lubor Fiedler: Floating in the air has always been a magical dream. Tenyo has created a great magic trick that realizes this dream. In effect, using special 3D glasses you can experience magical levitation. A Magical Carpet is placed in the magician's hands and starts to float. The carpet floats from your hands onto a mat. The carpet continues to float on the mat. Slowly, you step on the carpet, and the carpet still floats. The mat can be moved underneath the carpet to show that it is not supporting the carpet. Illusion comes with two sets of 3D glasses for the spectators to experience the illusion.
Sounds like a pretty cool lineup. Of course, we will have more information later in the year, and then product in December as usual.

(2) No Way Nest Of Boxes – Tommy James: From Tommy James, a super easy-to-load nest of boxes and bags that will blow your audience away! This is one of the strongest routines in Tommy’s birthday party act as well as his adult and corporate gigs.
Borrow a ring from a willing spectator. Ask for a different spectator to join you on stage. State you are going to play the famous “Ring Toss” game. Cover the ring with a handkerchief (supplied) and ask your volunteer to hold the ring through the handkerchief. Explain that when you count to three, you will whisk the cloth away and the ring will fly through the air and back onto the spectator’s finger in the audience. Instruct the spectator in the audience to hold up their finger.
Explain that sometimes the ring vaporizes in mid-air. If that happens, they will receive a gift in exchange for their ring. Sitting on your table is a gift bag. Reach in with your empty hand and pull out a decorative rigid gift box with a ribbon tied around it. Show it all around, top and bottom, close-up etc.
Return to the spectator holding the ring under the handkerchief. “One! Two! Three!” Whisk the cloth away. Pretend to follow the invisible ring through the air, but it doesn’t land on their finger. It must have vaporized!
“But don’t fear, I have a gift for you!” Untie the ribbon on the box and remove the lid.
Inside there is a second box. Remove it, untie the ribbon and remove the lid.
Inside is a third box with a ribbon tied around it.
Inside the third box is a gold bag sealed with a rubber band. Have the spectator open the bag.
Inside the gold bag is a purple bag sealed with a rubber band.
The spectator opens the second bag and inside the purple bag is a red bag. Inside the sealed red bag is the spectators borrowed finger ring! Wow!
The loading of the ring literally takes a split second. The outer box has been deviously gaffed. Once the ring is loaded, the outer box is completely sealed and the box can be shown on all sides including top and bottom. They will see nothing. (6) Winning Numbers – Pro Series Number 1 Paul Romhany:
The idea of predicting raffle ticket numbers, chosen at random by audience members, can be found in 13 Steps to Mentalism. However, the original method required an offstage assistant. (9) Mes(s)merize - Stefan Olschewski: An impossible prediction effect!
A clear wine glass is seen on a table center stage, containing a black envelope with a prediction. The spectators are asked to concentrate on a single thought, write it down on a card and seal it in an opaque envelope. At your command, they all throw their envelopes onto the stage. A random spectator selects any one of the envelopes. No force.
Let's assume the thought inside reads "ICECREAM". She removes the prediction from the glass and opens it. She reads the prediction out loud: it matches the freely selected thought!
Now for the final kicker: The lady is asked to open up the crumpled paper ball that was used to randomly select her as a volunteer. It reads: "Tonight, a beautiful lady called Annie will think of ICECREAM!"
