Greetings from all of us at Hank Lee’s Magic Factory, And, what a week it has been!
I love technology as much as the next guy. But, when the same technology that makes our lives easier and more fun is used for evil rather than good, it is totally frustrating. Case in point: Email hackers. I know there is an official term for this, but sadly, being of the dinosaur generation, I do not know what it is. I do know that, this week, some creepier than creepy person somehow weaseled their way into our email address book and sent everyone on our list a spam-filled message that looked like it came from us, but had a questionable link to who-knows-where. Of course, it was not from us. And, I apologize for any problems this might have caused. Since Tuesday, we have had our crack team of techno-braniacs working on the situation and I am told that now all systems are “go.” You will, hopefully, never get that kind of mail from us. If, by chance you do, please let me know immediately. Why can’t those evil-minded folks just go off somewhere and play Pong or PacMan?
The wide, wide world of magic keeps on spinning. This week, Luis deMatos announced that this year’s Essential Magic Conference will be held the first week of July. It is an incredibly ambitious project, and well worth the registration fee. Of course, you can register for EMC 2011 with us. As last year, everyone who registers will get the 8 DVD EMC 2011 Set as part of the registration fee. Since the set costs $150.00, and registration is only $90.00, you actually come out $60.00 ahead and get to attend the conference. An excellent deal.
Speaking of magic conventions, sometimes I feel like the folks who produce the Rose Parade in Pasadena. The second the current parade is over, they are already working on the next year’s event. Same here, only no roses. We have already begin working on the 2012 Cape Cod Magic Conclave. Feelers are already going out to acts we would like to have with us next year, and the dates for the Conclave are already set. April 13th-15th, 2012. It’s never to early to register!

Now, let’s take a look at this week’s Hotlist
(1) Angry Sponges:Offer to explain the super-popular mobile device game Angry Birds, by pulling one of the birds straight out of your phone. You then produce a little green pig and explain how the birds fly through the air to try and kill the greedy little pigs. Suddenly the bird vanishes from one hand and appears right next to the pig.
Next you take a little blue bird out and put it into the spectator’s hand. With a magical tap of the finger, the blue bird splits into three fully examinable birds, right in the spectator's hand.
Finally, you introduce a big black bomb bird. When it is pushed into your hand it completely changes color, then changes into three stars indicating a perfect game.
Everyone will want to examine the little birds at the end which is totally fine! Everything is as examinable as it is charming.
You don't need a smart phone to perform this trick, it will appeal to everyone, but especially those who have played Angry Birds. And, who hasn’t?
