Even as you read this week’s eMail Newsletter, Bonnie, Aron and I are on the road to Oberlin Ohio. Lucas the Singing Son will graduate this coming Monday, and we’ll be there to watch him. We decided to drive because, what the heck, it’s only 674 miles and because we have to bring back a bunch of Lucas’ stuff. Immediately following graduation, Lucas will return to St. Louis and the St. Louis Opera Company. We will hit the road on Monday afternoon and should be back sometime Tuesday morning. I am told by reliable sources that it’s going to be 90 degrees in Oberlin. Yikes!

(3) Hole – Mickael Chatelain: One of Mickael Chatelain’s pet effects, and it is a real fooler!
The spectator examines a red card that has a 1" hole through its center. Aside from the hole, the card is perfectly ordinary.
Take out a few self-stick labels and invite the spectator to choose and sign one of them.
Take the top card of the deck and place the red card with the hole on top of it.
Using the label, hinge the two cards together at the bottom edge.
Invite a spectator to verify that your "construction" is solid by pulling on it.
Now you explain to your spectator that nothing can pass through the joined cards without tearing the label. The proof: invite your spectator to take a card from the deck, sign it, and place it between your two attached cards. His card is still visible through the hole in the red card but, as the spectator will note, the label prevents all passage.
Now for the magic! Slowly place the spectator's card between your two cards. Show both sides, leaving no doubt that the spectator's card is trapped. Yet, slowly the spectator's card passes through the label as if it weren't there. Immediately show that your "construction" is as solid as it was at the beginning!
A truly curious experiment made all the more so as your spectator can examine the cards and the label! An unsolvable mystery!
Remember:
The principle for Hole is really different.
The spectator can hold the cards without being any the wiser.
The illusion is totally convincing and the spectator can actually feel the card slowly pass through the label.

(8) The Vanishing – Shin Lim:
An incredible effect, and already a best seller!
Preface: This utility device will allow you to do miracles when it comes to vanishing an object or making it travel from one place to another. It is light to carry and can fit in your wallet. It's not bulky, and no necessary clothing requirements are needed. You can even use this gimmick naked if you wanted to.
Chapter 1: The magician borrows a small object, a coin, ring, etc. There are no switches, and the exact same coin is used the entire time. With a slow wave over the coin, it effortlessly vanishes. No funny movements, no sudden sleights. The coin is completely gone. The spectator can feel your hands to make sure there's nothing there; because there is nothing! At this point, you can either choose to end or continue, and make the coin reappear again on your hand or in theirs. You then hand out their coin for examination and leave them with a signed coin they'll never forget.
Chapter 2: The magician borrows a Tic Tax box and a Tic Tac. There are no switches whatsoever, and there are no alterations to the box or the Tic Tac. You cleanly place the Tic Tac inside the box. And with no sudden movements, the Tic Tac visually melts through the bottom, landing on your spectator's outstretched hand. They can then immediately examine the Tic Tac and the box.
Chapter 3: The magician proceeds to use an ordinary coffee cup, and asks the spectator for a dollar bill (or anything that can be crumpled up into a ball). He cleanly places the cup over the ball. With no movements whatsoever, he snaps his fingers and the ball is gone. He then proceeds with his regular Cups and Balls routine.
