We are heading into college graduation season. In fact, some colleges have already graduated. Now, let’s take a look at this week’s Hotlist!
(1) The Vanishing - Shin Lim:
This utility device will allow you to do miracles when it comes to vanishing an object or making it travel from one place to another. It is light to carry and can fit in your wallet. It's not bulky, and no necessary clothing requirements are needed. You can even use this gimmick naked if you wanted to.
Chapter 1: The magician borrows a small object, a coin, ring, etc. There are no switches, and the exact same coin is used the entire time. With a slow wave over the coin, it effortlessly vanishes. No funny movements, no sudden sleights. The coin is completely gone. The spectator can feel your hands to make sure there's nothing there; because there is nothing! At this point, you can either choose to end or continue, and make the coin reappear again on your hand or in theirs. You then hand out their coin for examination and leave them with a signed coin they'll never forget.
Chapter 2: The magician borrows a Tic Tax box and a Tic Tac. There are no switches whatsoever, and there are no alterations to the box or the Tic Tac. You cleanly place the Tic Tac inside the box. And with no sudden movements, the Tic Tac visually melts through the bottom, landing on your spectator's outstretched hand. They can then immediately examine the Tic Tac and the box.
Chapter 3: The magician proceeds to use an ordinary coffee cup, and asks the spectator for a dollar bill (or anything that can be crumpled up into a ball). He cleanly places the cup over the ball. With no movements whatsoever, he snaps his fingers and the ball is gone. He then proceeds with his regular Cups and Balls routine.

(9) Knock 'em Dead II - Perer Nardi:
It's not very often a card effect hits the market that is 100% commercial, easy for your spectators to follow, entertaining and has a killer reveal. Peter Nardi's classic Knock 'em Dead is just that. Now, for the first time Peter is releasing his updated version. This is the version Peter and a few of his close magical friends have been performing commercially for the past few years.
How about this for an impossible routine: Start by showing a card with the trick instructions printed on it. The card is placed away just in case you need to refer back to it later.
Now, hand your spectator a deck of cards and have them deal the cards into a face-up pile. They may stop dealing whenever they like.
You show the card with the printed trick instructions on it.
Have your spectator read the instructions aloud and just sit back and watch the look on their face as they turn the card over and read the reveal!!

(10) Batteries Not Included - Russ Styler:
A great idea from Russ Styler, this funny routine is proving a real winner, and a good way of leaving your audience with your contact info!
Have a card selected and returned to the pack. Explain that you have the world's thinnest calculator, and produce a small packet of specially printed cards. The spectator signs the front of one of the calculator cards to 'activate' it.
Then, there follows a series of good sight gags and finally the chosen card is found with the help of the calculator.
This is not one of those 'great ideas' that somebody had. It is something that Russ has been working for years and as a full time pro he tends to know what works in the real world.
