Friday With Hank Lee - Everyday Low Prices. For Now. Forever!

Greetings from everyone here at Hank Lee’s Magic Factory.

I am sick. Not sick with a capital “S”. Sick with a small “s”. It all started last Saturday. I woke up in the morning with a wicked sore throat. One of those that feel like there’s a golf ball stuck in your throat. So, I began the drill. Gargle with warm salt water. Take Mucinex every 12 hours. Load up on Vitamin C. Spray with Chloraseptic. All the usual stuff. By Wednesday, the sore throat was gone, but I had developed a cough and other cold symptoms. So, I added Robitussin to the mix, and hopefully the cough will go away in a short while. In all, I feel pretty yucky. I forgot to mention that Tuesday, Bonnie made me a big pot of chicken soup. It actually made me feel better. Go figure.

Tuesday is Valentine’s Day. Don’t forget to get a card or two, a nice box of chocolates and some flowers for your significant other. And, if you are feeling extra generous, there’s nothing that says, “I love you” like a finely printed Gift Certificate from Hank Lee’s. Everyone likes to be appreciated on Valentine’s Day. And no one likes to sleep on the couch. So, get on it. Time’s a wastin.’

I have been watching with great interest the J.C. Penny ads for their “Square Deal.”  As one of the largest retailers in the country, it makes sense to see what they are doing and perhaps apply it to our little magic world. In essence, they have decided to eliminate weekly sales and coupons and the like. They felt that customers were getting inundated with “specials” of all kinds. And, that the specials were no longer being looked at as all so special. So, they decided to simply lower their prices across the board and make the new low prices their everyday prices.

I really like the idea. If we give you really good prices every day, there will be no need to watch for weekly sales. Every day will be sale day, right?

So, we are going to try this for a month. If it works the way I hope it does, we will use it as our new business model. If not, then we’ll try something different. I honestly hope you will be happy with the new plan. I would really like you to let me know what you think!

Make sure and check out the up to date Conclave News page right here. We have added some great new talent, and are definitely getting into Conclave mode. I hope you are planning to be with us. All you need to do is register!

EVERYDAY LOW PRICE EVENT: For now and forever. Tell the truth, are you a little tired of all the different sales events coming your way? Coupons for this. Drastic price reductions for that. Wouldn’t you rather find a place (us, we hope), where the prices are low every day so you don’t have to go running around to save a really small additional amount. Where you can develop a genuine relationship with the folks on the other end of the phone. Where you can call with your questions and get informed answers.
That’s what we want as well.
So, from now on, we are lowering the price on every single discountable item by 25%. Every day. Week in and week out. You will really save a lot. And, you know that the price today and the price tomorrow and the price next week will be the same. It’s real peace of mind.
All you need to do is enter the special code LOWPRICES in the Discount Coupon Box of the online checkout at www.magicfact.com and we will automatically deduct 25% from your order total.
If you are calling your order in to the Toll Free Order Line at 800 874 7400, FAXing your order to us at 781 395 2034 or emailing us your order to magicfact@aol.com make sure and mention the special code so you can save like crazy
Now, here are the rules:
• The minimum order to get the everyday low price is $35.00.
• No intermediate discounts (such as HankoGram pricing) may be applied. In the case of sets, such as DVDs and Videos, the everyday low price is based on the retail price of each item and not from the set price.
• We cannot combine offers.
• Certain items, due to contractual restrictions, are just not discountable. All Viking/CW items, Kennedy Enterprises items, Colin Rose items, Mike Caveney Books, theory11 items, Johnson Products items, MagicSmith items, Greater Magic Teach-In DVDs, One Of A Kind Collectors' Items and a few other items are not included.
• If you place an order for an item that is not on this list or not noted in our online catalog, but is excluded excluded from our everyday low price event, we will let you know before processing your order.
• Promotional Gift Certificates, Coupons and Reward Points may not be used as part of the every day low price promotion.
• As the discount is automatically generated, you must put the special code LOWPRICES in the Discount Coupon Box and nowhere else. You may have to scroll to the bottom of the page to find the box, but it is there. If you are not sure how to do this, please phone your order in to our toll-free order line at 800 874 7400, and we will take care of you. We cannot offer discounts retroactively.

And that’s it. Really simple. That’s the way we want it to be. 25% off all discountable items every day of the week, every week of the year.
For us, and we hope you, the cool part is that this promotion does not end. It’s just beginning!

And now, let’s take a peek at this week’s Hotlist!

(1) Shift – Self Bending Fork: Fork and Spoon bending, while beautiful and elegant, has always had a major drawback. You have to do the dirty work. The magician always had to bear the burden of covering a movement here, or protecting an angle there.
In a breakthrough, Shift: Self Bending Fork activates its bending movements using only your spectator's body heat. You can manipulate the molecules of metal without touching the fork.
Previous versions of the self-bending fork had inherent problems. The fork looked like it was made from lead, and it had to be kept cold until you were ready to use it.  Plus, the cost was a whopping $400.
Shift features a chrome finish so that the fork resembles real flatware, and the price has been cut in half! Plus, the gimmick is designed to remain straight at room temperature, until you place it inside the spectator's hands.
Shift remains unbent, unnoticed and unassuming until the moment you place it into the spectator's hands. From that moment on, your work is done and the magic begins.
A physical impossibility is now within your reach.
Remember:  This is not an opening effect. If you perform this as your first trick, make it your only trick, because nothing can follow Shift. Your spectators will look at you through new eyes, so why go perform a card trick after something like this? Shift is your "coup de grace" effect. No effect is more, fair, unbelievable or convincing.
$197.00 (40.820)

"My only regret is that it's being sold to the public... this should be all mine." - Morgan Strebler, The Man Who Bends Steel

"The most WTF moment spectators will ever experience." - Dan Sperry, World Renowned Professional Magician

"This is what real magic would look and feel like." - Daniel Garcia, Top Professional Magician

(2) Ring In Ball Of Wool – Dave Powell: This is a set of Nested Boxes for the working professional!
A black cloth bag tied on both ends is seen resting on a table or can be hanging in full view.
The performer places a wine glass on the table and borrows a finger ring from any spectator. The ring is placed in the folds of a handkerchief and given to the spectator to hold over the mouth of the wine glass. He can actually feel the ring through the handkerchief and is told to hold it tight.
The performer opens the bag and removes a beautiful walnut box and sets it in full view of the audience.
The spectator is asked to drop the ring into the glass.
She lets go of the ring and it clinks as it falls into the glass.
The performer immediately whisks the handkerchief away from the glass. The ring has vanished!
The spectator is then handed a key to the box. She unlocks it and opens the box herself. Inside she finds a ball of yarn, which she unrolls to discover another box, held closed by several rubber bands.
The spectator removes the rubber bands and opens the box herself. Inside, she finds her very own ring!
All handmade custom designed hardware!
Spectator does everything herself - unlocks outer box, unrolls ball of yarn, opens inner box and finds borrowed ring inside.
The beautifully hand-crafted walnut (5” X 5”) outer box and (2 ½” X 2 ½”) inner box with solid pewter hardware hides the secret even upon close inspection.
Includes Cloth Bag, 2 Walnut Boxes, Handkerchief and Secret Gimmick.
A truly collectable piece!

(3) Ray Goulet - Recollections of a Renaissance Man - Frank Dudgeon with Ann Goulet - Foreword by John Calvert:
For the past 36 years, Ray Goulet and I have been the friendliest of competitors in the Boston Magic Shop scene. I like Ray a lot. He is a fountain of knowledge, knowledge he loves to share. And, his magic museum is way better than mine. Way better. Personally, I am very excited about this new book. You should be as well.

No expense was spared with the production of this hardcover book with dust jacket, loaded with color photographs showcasing the many aspects of Ray's life along with his Mini-Museum of Magic. You will enjoy the many personal stories of the Goulets days in show business, the people they met and friendships they made. This is one publication you will not want to miss and will be proud to have in your library.

"When talking about magic and show-biz happenings during our Saturday magic group sessions and at other magic gatherings, I have often been told I should put my stories in a book. I have done a lot of things in my life, but writing is certainly not one of them. Frank Dudgeon, while living in the Boston area, expressed a willingness to take on the task. However, if there was to be a book, I did not want it to be all about me. Instead I wanted it to include the friends I have made in magic, and those in show-biz as well. I consider these friends a big part of my life...
You will find many photos in this book and there is a story behind each one.
There is an old saying in show business: 'I have had a good run'. To that I will add, 'And I have enjoyed every minute of it'." – Ray Goulet
Full color photographs.
268 pages. 8” x 10.” Hardcover with dust jacket

(4) Hole In One Golf Illusion: From our friends at Joker Magic, a complete sell-out at this year’s Columbus Magi-Fest!
Offer to demonstrate a revolutionary new method of teaching golf!
From a small black box, you remove a golf cube. It’s like a golf ball, only square! It’s for beginners.
Explain that the game is very simple. All the player has to do is get the cube into the hole (the empty black box)
Beginning golfers need to practice until they can get a hole in one.
Place the golf cube into the black box and, when you turn the box upside down, a genuine golf ball (the round kind) drops out! You can hand the ball out for examination.
Now, for the advanced level. To play golf, you need a green. Suddenly, a green cube appears from the black box. Hand the “green” to the spectator to hold.
The best part of this routine is that everything may be examined immediately and they will find nothing!
Imported from Europe.
$99.95 (10.1684)
Note: This is a non-discountable item.

(5) Coin Wand – Half Dollar Size: This is a real gem from Colin Rose’s Five of Hearts Workshop. Unavailable for a long time but now beautifully made to the original design of Professor Hoffman in Modem Magic.
Faithfull in its reproduction, the coin is precision engineered, having been cut at 45 degree angles in three pieces, emerging from a hollow wand, giving the appearance of a solid coin production. And the vanish works in reverse.
An absolute must for the Miser’s Dream routine, available in Half Dollar coins. Routine notes by Patrick Page.
$235.00 (60.1815)

(6) Red Light – Doug Brewer: Doug Brewer is back with more of his favorite miracles with coins. Red Light - Magic to Make Them Stop in Their Tracks!
All the material is suitable for walk-around or stand-up environments - no jacket or sitting required.
Coins In Single File: A prelude routine to Coins & Cylinder. Coins vanish one at a time, in the cleanest manner possible, and reappear under a small leather cylinder.
Coins & Cylinder: The classic routine using four Half Dollars, a small piece of cork and a leather cylinder (and maybe a little something else).
9 Ball in the Corner Pocket: Doug converts David Roth's classic showpiece, The Portable Hole, into a practical walk-around routine with a killer ending.
Right-Handed Coins: One of the strongest routines in Doug's repertoire. He'll teach you all the nuances to the one routine they'll ask to see again.
Vanishing Matrix: Pretty much what the title implies. Simple. Practical. Impossible. What more could you bring your audiences?
The Invisible: The opening routine to a two-phase coin box set. Three coins vanish and reappear in the magician's hand, and even the spectator's hand, only to reappear back in the box!
Brass Trio: Doug's homage to a Gary Kurtz classic in coin magic. Two copper coins and a silver half dollar vanish one at a time, switch places, then appear under the box and lid sitting on the table.
Box Through Hand: Absolutely one of Doug's favorite routines with the coin box designed for stand-up or walk-around environments (no sitting required!).
Translocated Okito Box: A beautiful little routine direct from Doug's book, Coin Box Killers.
Too Perfect (performance only): As the title implies, a near perfect rendition of an out-in-out with three coins and an Okito coin box.
$35.00 (DVD01323)
Note: This is a non-discountable item.

(7) Life And Times Of Alexander – The Man Who Knows - Darryl Beckmann: Did you know that Claude (Alexander) Conlin rubbed elbows with such notables as Harold Lloyd, Clara Bow and Margaret Sullivan? That he had as many wives as Mickey Rooney? Or how about the fact that he loaned Houdini $500 and he was never paid back? Read all about these facts and more in The Life and Times of Alexander - The Man Who Knows.
This personal scrapbook is filled with photos (many published for the first time) from Alexander's own personal photo album and scrapbooks including many color plates of his publicity material.
With the Conlin family's blessing, Darryl Beckmann spent many hours with Alexander's son John, the Nartell twins, and many experts on the life of Alexander, who shared amusing stories, news clippings and unknown facts about Alexander.
As an added bonus, Alexander's book, The Life and Mysteries of the Celebrated Dr. "Q" is included as part of this mammoth volume!
Each book is numbered from a Limited Edition print run of 1000 copies
360 pages. 8.5" x 11." Hardcover with dust jacket.
$100.00 (BK01839)

(8) The Unknown – Mark Bendell: For the first time, Mark Bendell releases some of his best creations, including Bag 4 Life, Ouija Card and Back To The Future. Sit back as Lee Smith and Gary Jones bring the Bendell effects to life before a live audience. There are 13 stunning routines on this DVD project that runs for nearly two hours.
Contents Include:
PCAAAN - A completely impromptu prediction/coincidence effect based around the CAAN plot with a freely chosen card and a number.
Special K - This is a weird one, how can the magician's lucky card which has a paperclip (or a clothes peg) attached to it occupy two different places at the same time, and then change into the signed selection!
Joker Kickback - Two selections switch places with two Jokers, or do they?! Two different handlings of this stunning 'Kickback' effect are explained.
Superstition - A totally impromptu card miracle of the mind themed around the number 13 and 'Free Will'
Color Oil and Queens - A color climax to Roy Walton's killer classic..
Hypno-PSE - The spectator's conscious mind witnesses the complete opposite to their subconscious mind!
Stand-Up B Twist - A stand-up handling of Paul Harris' Bizarre Twist, the perfect effect for large banquet tables.
Back to the Future - A double prediction where the time on a thought of card and the time on your watch match a photograph which has been on display all of the time.
Bag 4 Life - A visually stunning effect where a coin penetrates a sealed plastic bag and the bag is then instantly given out for complete examination! This effect is definitely worth the price of the DVD and is being used by some of the world’s leading professionals! Included is Lee Smith's super clean handling and some fantastic subtleties by Gary Jones and Mark Bendell.
Kick Back Tick Tac - A prediction is written on a Tic Tac box changes to match a chosen card, then the selection changes to the original prediction.
Out to Peek - A very clever utility device for the magician/mentalist which can be made in minutes.
Ouija Card - A pocket Ouija card is shown to contain all the letters of the alphabet on one side and is completely blank on the other side. A card is selected and signed, the letters on the Ouija card now rearrange themselves to reveal the selected card; when the Ouija card is turned over it is now seen to be the singed selection which is given to the spectator as a souvenir!
Predicta-Time - A spectator sets the time on a pocket watch and pops it into a purse. You now divine the time on the watch. The watch is immediately given out for examination. Very easy to do!
