Friday With Hank Lee - Here Comes The Holiday!

Merry Christmas. Happy Hanukkah and Happy Kwanzaa from all of us at Hank Lee’s Magic Factory. We had to invoke the old “more than one way to skin a cat” principle, but in the end we had a very good holiday season. The cat, on the other hand…

I want to personally thank you all for your business and friendship during the holiday season, and during the rest of the year as well. I know you are going to hear this from just about everyone you do business with. But, believe me when I tell you that the “Thank You” you get from us at Hank Lee’s is 100% sincere. Without all of you, we would just be sitting here twiddling our thumbs. Which can be fun for a minute, but not much more.

I hope that you get everything on your list for the holidays. But, despite everyone’s best efforts, it rarely happens. So here we are, open and ready. We have all the stuff that was on your magic “wish list.” All you need to do is head over to the Online Catalog at and order up the stuff you didn’t get. The elves are ready and waiting to makes your “wish list” come true.

I just want to rake a second to mention Jon Racherbaumer’s 7-7-7 book. These have been flying out the door. We have the exclusive on the book, so you can only get it from us here at Hank Lee’s. It’s really an excellent book!

And, that’s all from here. Check out this week’s magic1. It’s a good one!

Now, let’s take a look at this week’s Hotlist!

(1) Erdnase Unmasked – David Ben: For over a hundred years, the identity of the author of Artifice, Ruse and Subterfuge at the Card Table, known colloquially as The Expert at the Card Table, has perplexed practitioners of magic and historians alike. For many, it is the last great, unresolved mystery of twentieth century magic. That is, until now.
Magicana is pleased to publish the findings of Richard Hatch, the world's pre-eminent authority on the subject, along with sleight-of-hand artist David Ben's profile of the author drawn from the content of the book. Together, they make a compelling case that one man - E. S. Andrews - was the author of this seminal text.
This publication also contains Hurt McDermott's illuminating analysis of why The Expert at the Card Table, and books of its ilk, was published anonymously, and in Chicago. Jason England, a world-renowned authority on advantage play, provides a detailed description of the published variants and ancillary products.
This publication, designed by Michael Albright, is a composite of articles culled from the pages of Magicol, The journal of magic history and collectibles. It also includes a reprint of Martin Gardner's article, "Editions of Erdnase," that first appeared in Magicol, (Vol. 2, No. 1, August 1951), a private publication reserved for members of the Magic Collectors Association.
84 pages. Softbound.  5.5" x 8.5" (14cm x 21.5cm) Limited Edition - 500 copies.

(2) Blue And Gold – Kyle Peron: The entertainer’s complete guide to working the Cub Scout market.
This 60 page book is jammed full of the most relevant information you could ever ask for regarding working not only Cub Scout Blue and Gold Banquets, but also how to work any scouting program and event.
This is one of the only books that is devoted solely to giving you the information you need to work a market that can generate income for you all year round.
If you are already performing for children, work a family-focused show or if you are even a strolling magician, then Blue and Gold Banquets are a perfect extension of what you are already doing. You can learn to work them well by simply modifying your current show and having an understanding of how to market effectively to them. This, and so much more, is what Kyle gives you.
This book teaches you not only how to understand the Scout market, but also teaches you what Scout groups are specifically looking for in an entertainer. It shows you step-by-step techniques on exactly how to market to scout groups.
Kyle also gives you his full lead generation letter, follow-up letters and full templates that he has used for years to handle all aspects of communication and marketing.
After countless hours of research and direct applied experience, Kyle realized that information on working scouting programs was scarce. For this reason Kyle spent months compiling the information contained within the 60 pages of this book.

(4) Pocketed – Bob Solari: A card is freely selected [no force] from a deck.
The selected card is signed by the spectator, then returned to the deck and the deck shuffled.
The performer snaps his fingers over the deck and states, "Your card has vanished from the deck.".
Performer points to his right jacket pocket and says, “Wouldn't it be amazing if your card was in my pocket?" The spectator is asked to reach into this pocket and remove the single card. Spectator removes the card and turns it over.
Printed on this card are the words, "Your Card".
The performer apologizes for the bad joke and says, "Seriously, wouldn't it be amazing if your card was in my pocket?" Performer points to his left jacket pocket. Spectator agrees and reaches into performer’s left pocket and removes a single card. Printed on this card are the words, "Sorry... Wrong Pocket".
The performer points to his jacket breast pocket. Performer shows his hand empty , reaches in and removes a single card which he hands to the spectator. This card reads "No! The inner pocket!.”
Performer shows his hand completely empty and reaches into his inner jacket pocket and visibly removes the selected signed card!
Specially constructed props make this miracle a reality!
This effect requires no palming! Complete with all necessary gimmicks and specially printed cards, photo illustrated instructions. Alternate ending also discussed. Bob has been personally using this effect in his walk-around and table-hopping work and the reaction has been phenomenal!

(5) Spree’d: Platt Magic introduces the means to create some of the most mind-blowing close-up magic you’ll ever perform.  And the best part, it’s all done with apparently everyday objects - Spree candies. Here are just some of the Spree’d routines:
Least Favorite Flavor - Display all five flavors of Spree’s in your hand. Ask your spectator to name their least favorite flavor- the one they’d choose to put back in the pack. Let’s say they name orange. Close your fingers over the Sprees. When you open your hand the orange Spree is missing and appears at the end of an open pack of Sprees!
Spree’Chero - A red Spree sits at the open end of a pack of Sprees. A green Spree sits in your palm. The two Sprees instantly change places. Both can instantly be handed out.
Traffic Light- Hopping Halves with everyday candies. Show a red, yellow and green Spree. One by one you place them in your pocket, and one by one they return to your hand.
$35.00 (10.1676)

There is something on here for everyone - from easy to the knuckle-busting. Richard teaches everything in 50 minutes of painstaking detail, leaving no stone unturned. These changes may look like they use fancy gimmicks, but they only require pure sleight-of-hand that you can use anytime, anywhere.
Included as bonuses are two incredible underground sleights - The Mechanics Shift and The Rocket Change.

(7) OutStanding – Roberto Mansilla: Vernet is proud to introduce an incredible and unique Stand Up/Stage version of Out of This World.
Imagine this: The magician improvises two music stands using two glasses and two pieces of cardboard, one red the other one black. He gives the deck to the spectators asking them to shuffle it. After that, he begins to show cards showing their backs and asks the spectators if they think that those cards are red or black. As they answer, the magician places the cards against the corresponding cardboard pieces. Once all the cards have been dealt, the magician takes the cards leaning against the red cardboard piece and shows that all of them are red! Then, he takes the rest of the cards against the black cardboard piece and shows that they are all black!
100% audience tested.
* A 'Two Piles' version.
* The spectators shuffle the cards.
* Easy to perform. Minimum sleight of hand required.
