Greetings from all of us at Hank Lee’s Magic Factory. I hope you had a wonderful week. Bonnie, Lucas & I were off to New York City last weekend. Lucas is now in his Junior year of High School and is checking out colleges. This weekend it was NYU, home of the Steinhart School. Music is Lucas’ passion, and he is looking at programs in classical voice. The boy wants to sing opera, and I say, “go for it.” Living in Greenwich Village would be a real culture shock for our little Lucas. He would have to learn things like whispering, “Go Sox.” I am sure he could handle it. But, if he ever comes home wearing a Yankee hat, pow, zoom, right to the moon!
Aside from receiving some very cool new items this week, it has been uneventful. President’s Day was celebrated in the usual manner. I gave everyone who had ever been President the day off. Otherwise, we all worked. The new Extra is off to the printer. The Conclave is chugging along (Are you coming? Well, are you, or what?). I am still putting the finishing touches on the Book Book (those who have ordered it, just hang on).
I need to address an issue that has been brought to my attention. It seems that we are taking a nasty bashing in the online chat rooms over our slow delivery of Masuda’s WOW. Believe me, it is not by choice. No matter how hard we twist Masuda’s arm, no matter how much we beg and plead and cajole, he will only give us a fixed amount of WOWs every month. And not a single one more. So, we ship the back orders every month, and of course are left with more back orders for next month. At some point we will catch up, but not for a while. We have sold hundreds and hundreds of WOWs. The trick is amazing. Maybe the best new trick of 2006. But, it is slow coming. Once in a while, you will see WOW listed at another dealer. They get some, and then sell out very quickly. We get a consistent number each month, and ship them out by date of order. Ziggy The Zebra: Imported from Europe, this just might be the most fun you’ve ever had with a “turn it around” trick!
Show a large (12” x 15”) picture of Ziggy, the Zebra. Explain that he lives at the zoo with his friend Balduin, who is the zoo keeper. Like all the other zebras, Ziggy has black and white stripes. In the evenings, Ziggy likes to entertain his friends with a very puzzling trick.
As soon as the Ziggy comes out of his enclosure (a fence, now seen empty), he changes into a red and white striped zebra. Has Ziggy eaten too many carrots? A little bit of Ziggy’s picture can be seen above the fence the whole time.
When Balduin quickly looks again, Ziggy has changed again to black and white stripes which is as it should be.
Ziggy changes once again, and now the kids know how it is done You are simply turning the picture around along with the fence. The kids demand the picture be turned round. Now the fun starts. You turn Ziggy every which way but the way the kids want.?
“I can’t do that because I think you think there is a red zebra on the back!” “And you know what, I think you are right.” The picture is turned round and the children see – a green zebra. Shrieks of laughter.
