Happy Birthday To Me!

Happy Birthday to me; Happy Birthday to me. It’s my birthday, and I can’t even begin to thank everyone who remembered and sent me an email or called to wish me a Happy Birthday. I was so surprised that so many of you remembered. I wonder if my mentioning it last week had anything to do with it. No matter, I still want to thank you all for remembering. Actually, my birthday was the 17th, but in our family, we like to celebrate for a few days. Not such a bad idea, right?

Here at Hank Lee’s, we have had a most amazing holiday season. In fact, the season was so crazy that we needed to hire a new elf. Beav-O, the busy as a beaver elf. Beav-O says, “We can get all those orders out in plenty of time for the holidays. No problem. Work harder. Work longer. Work faster.” Which is exactly what he has been doing. The orders are literally flying out the door. And, you shold see how many empty cans from Red Bull are on Beav-O’s desk. Yikes. For those of you who get the weekly email Newsletter in html format, I have included a photo of Beav-O. For those who still get the text-only format, let me know and I’ll hook you up with the html version.

Now, let’s take a look at this week’s Hotlist

(1) The Chest: Magical moments come from amazing illusions. Yaniv Levy and Roi Yozevitch present The Chest, blending modern technology with magic. The Chest raises mentalism to the upper echelon of legendary status.
For one effect, the performer borrows up to 5 personal objects from different spectators and places them into The Chest. With the performer blindfolded or having his back turned, the spectators opens the box. They retrieve as many objects as they wish from The Chest and place them into different pockets. After the spectators complete the task, the performer is able to reveal which items the spectators picked out and in which pockets they placed them. The magician is 100% correct with every selection. And, remember, the objects are all borrowed!
The Chest is only bound by the magician's imagination. Versatile - many more routines are possible with this device. The Chest is an absolutely beautiful piece, designed to capture the spectators’ interest. Lightweight structure allows for a mobile piece of hardware. The electronics are cleverly hidden within The Chest so it looks totally innocent.
Measures 15" (L) x 8" (W) x 8 1/2" (D). (38cm x 20cm x 21cm)
Includes Instructional DVD and Manufacturer's Warranty. $900.00 (40.701)

(2) One-Hand Popover – Aaron Fisher: It's not there. It's there.
That's how quickly, amazingly, and impossibly a card pops out of the deck with Aaron Fisher's powerful new sleight, One-hand Popover. Based on J.K. Hartman's Popover, this new revelation is the basis for a wide variety of visually stunning card illusions, from Ace productions to transpositions to card stabs - all made more remarkable because you're holding the deck with just one hand.
First taught in The Paper Engine, Aaron's acclaimed book on advanced card technique, One-Hand Popover is now part of Aaron's Personal Training Series on DVD, where you can learn every nuance of this move - from exact finger placement to critical timing issues - as if its creator were sitting right across from you in your living room.
On the One-Hand Popover DVD, you'll find many never before seen, practical uses for this celebrated production. But that's not all. You'll also get:
All the technology that Aaron has developed with this dynamic move in the 10 years since he wrote The Paper Engine. New, different, and more powerful applications? You bet. The seamless direction of Wayne Houchin and Dana Hocking. When these directors collaborate with Aaron Fisher, you know you're getting the very finest teaching available in magic today, combined with the very best direction available in the magic instructional market. The result is a teaching tool unlike any other.
Even if you're scared of "advanced" sleight of hand, Aaron will guide you through every step of the learning process, ensuring that you'll not only learn the One-Hand Popover, you'll master it - and in far less time than you ever thought possible. One-Hand Popover. $30.00 (30.1462)

(3) Modern Marvel Vol. 1 – Mel Mellers: Join your host Mel Mellers and his crew as they travel the length and breadth of the UK to bring you seven brand new routines on this superb new DVD set. Over a year in the making, you'll watch Mel perform in various live shows and then return to the studio to explain everything that you need to know.
Along the way be amazed and above all amused, as Mel performs a 6 Card Repeat in a truly international way, a feat of number manipulation despite overriding distraction, a Plume routine that gets huge laughs, an underwater escape that has no water (!), a superb mindreading stunt in which he predicts a genuinely random set of numbers, manipulates his own eyeball, vanishes and reappears a borrowed watch and for his grand finale uses a flea and a feather (don't ask!).
As fans will know, Mel is a hilarious magician and all of these brilliant routines can be adapted to be used by all performers. As usual Mel takes an effect and turns it upside down with a unique and original twist!

(4) Prinkle Chip Can: You’ve just finished one of your best tricks, and offer some Potato Chips to the youngster who has just assisted you. A reward for being such a fine assistant.
The kid looks at you like you’re crazy! He knows for sure that if he opens the Potato Chip can, snakes will come flying out. He’s seen this way to many times to be suckered in.
So, you open the can, and much to everyone’s surprise, it is full of chips. You have a couple of chips then casually close the can.
Later, another assistant is offered the same reward from the same can. The second assistant is still a little hesitant, so you open the can yourself. The can is full of chips, some of which you eat, then return to performing.
A while goes by and you offer a third assistant a reward. He opens the same can and BAM! Snakes jump from the can! What a surprise! Everyone laughs and tries to figure out where on earth the snakes came from.
Only one can is used. No switch. The Prinkle Chip Can is designed to do the work for you. Snakes are included. You will love the method. And the chips!

(5) Modosu: The most recent street-style effect from Sean Scott. It is a continuation in the organic line of effects, Ki & Bandarizumu.
You just have to love magic that involves picking trash up off the street, right?
A crushed can is found lying nearby and signed on top with a spectator's initials.
The performer tosses the object to the ground and suddenly stomps his foot down on top of it.
As the foot is lifted, the can is seen to visually morph into a restored & sealed beverage! The performer slowly lifts the can from the ground and displays the spectator's initials still on top of the can.
It is wiped clean (I should hope so) and given to the spectator to open and consume if desired. Modosu uses a specially designed & fabricated gimmick.
Features:
Instant repeat
Performer can show soles of shoes after the effect.
Includes gimmick to produce can, ready to use in 15 minutes.
Use your own shoes, no permanent or complicated alterations.
Effect can also be used to switch other items: cards, coins, etc.
Includes DVD covering all elements of effect, along with bonus ideas.
Minimal assembly required

Flip through the Mickey Mouse book, which depicts sweet candies spilling across the colorful pages.
Close the book and tell the children that books give them magical powers.
Books can make their wishes appear before them, if they concentrate.
As the children concentrate, real live candies begin to spill out from the book.
When you flip through the pages of the book a second time, the colorful candies have vanished from the pictures!
